About this policy

This policy covers the public website at synaraops.com, operated by Synara Ops, INC. It explains what the site collects when you visit it or send us a message through it.

Synara SMS has its own SMS privacy notice. This policy does not describe the Synara service that customers sign in to.

The contact form

When you send a message through the contact form on our home page, we receive your name, email address and company, and, if you give them, your phone number, how many cameras you manage and any note you add. With it we receive the IP address it was sent from, your browser’s user-agent string, which describes your browser and device, and how long the form took to fill in.

We use this to read and reply to your message, and to keep automated spam out: the form has a hidden field that only bots fill in, ignores messages sent implausibly fast, and limits how many messages one IP address can send in an hour. We do not add you to a mailing list.

Where messages go and how long we keep them

The form does not save your message to a database. It is sent as an email, through Amazon Simple Email Service, to hello@synaraops.com, a mailbox hosted by Google Workspace. That email contains everything listed above, including your IP address and user-agent string. We keep enquiry emails in that mailbox until we delete them by hand; there is no automatic deletion. To ask us to delete yours sooner, email hello@synaraops.com.

Running the form also leaves two short-lived records at Amazon Web Services. Service logs are kept for 14 days; for each message sent they record your IP address, email address, company and the length of your message, but not its text, and for a message rejected as automated or over the limit they record only the IP address. Rate-limit counters, keyed by IP address and hour, are set to expire two hours after they are created, and the database then deletes them automatically, usually within a few days.

Site analytics

Every page of this site loads Contentsquare, an analytics service that records how visitors use the site. It records the pages you view and the page you came from; how you scroll, move the pointer, click and tap, and the text of what you click; your screen size, browser, device and language; JavaScript errors; and your IP address. It can also record a visit as a session replay: a reconstruction of the pages as you saw them and what you did on them.

Contentsquare does not capture what you type. Before anything leaves your browser, text typed into form fields is replaced with placeholder characters and field values are removed, so a replay of the contact form shows that something was typed, not what.

Contentsquare stores cookies on synaraops.com: _cs_id recognises a returning browser and lasts 13 months, and _cs_s follows the current visit and lasts 30 minutes. It may set others described in Contentsquare’s cookie list. These cookies belong to this site, and we do not use them to follow you across other websites. The site sets no cookies of its own.

Contentsquare processes this information for us as our service provider. Contentsquare keeps the analytics data, session replays and IP addresses it collects for this site for 13 months. Contentsquare describes its own practices in its privacy center.

Do Not Track

This site does not currently respond to Do Not Track signals. Contentsquare loads and sets its cookies on every page whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track request, and the same is true of Global Privacy Control.

To keep your visits out of Contentsquare, block scripts and cookies from contentsquare.net in your browser settings or with a content blocker. The rest of the site, including the contact form, works without it. You can also write to hello@synaraops.com instead of using the form.

Hosting and downloads

Amazon Web Services hosts this site and delivers its pages, which means it receives your IP address and browser details with each request. We have not turned on access logging for the site.

The Downloads page loads its list of installers, and the installers themselves, from Synara’s software update service at software-updates.synaraops.com, which receives the same request details when you use it.

Questions and changes

For questions about this policy or a request about your information, email hello@synaraops.com.

If we change this policy, we will publish the new version on this page and update the date at the top.
